Metas and OnPage Settings of Blogs

Meta tags are of special importance in SEO. The search capability of most of the search engines depends on them along with the content of that page. When you search for something in Google, then the result shows you contains title of the website, description, and link of your website.

In the above example, Google showed the Meta description of the topitworld along with the meta title. It shows that including the meta titles for your website is a must. If you install the Yoast SEO plugin in your WordPress site, it allows you to set meta title and description of your home page from SEO>title and metas.

Title Tag

Title Tag is written at the top of an HTML page. This tag tells the search engine about your website. When you open your website, these words appear at the top. The main keywords should be included in this tag but don’t do stuffing of words in the title. Title word length should be a maximum of 64 so that it can appear full in Google searches. It is written as;

<title>Your Website title here</title>

Meta Description Tag

The meta description is shown below the title in search results. Your meta description should be simple and summarized in 255 words. Don’t spam multiple keywords in it i.e. a maximum of two keywords is enough. This description tells the search engine for which purpose this website is and what information is included in it. WP plugins like SEO Yoast works best to set the meta description of such content.

Tags

When your post a thread on a forum or comment on a blog, you see different words related to that article separated by commas. These are called meta tags. Meta tags are used in different ways i.e. in blogs they are used in the head section, in WordPress, Joomla they are used while creating posts. Meta tags help the search engine to search properly.

For example, when a user searches “SEO in Urdu” Google will firstly search meta tags, post titles, and meta descriptions and hence will show only those websites in organic search that contain the above words. Search Engine ignores those blogs which don’t contain meta tags or it will not show it in first priority.  Due to which such a website doesn’t get any traffic referred from search engines.

Following are some of the precautions while writing tags;

  • Always write the correct spelling of tag.
  • Place a comma after every tag.
  • Don’t include all the tags related to your post.
