Bixby is a virtual assistant (personal assistant) developed by Samsung Electronics. Bixby mimics Google Personal Assistant in all way, but stays different from being more conversational and apologetic when it messes up. This AI powered voice assistant can make device interaction easier.
Bixby is available with Samsung devices Galaxy S8, Galaxy S8+ and Note 8. Bixby is Samsung’s try to take on Siri, Google Assistant, Cortana and Alexa.
These all are replacement to Samsung’s previous technology S Voice and other similar technologies.
Bixby can help you set an alarm, search online, make a call, click a selfie, and it can do everything whatever you can do with your phone. You can give command either through text or voice.
1. Bixby understands natural language
You don’t need to type a complete sentence to order an action. You can just ask it how you speak. Bixby can catch your words like a pro. The technology called “natural language recognition” is key behind this functionality.
2. Bixby is contextually aware
You don’t need to detail exactly what to do with what. Bixby already understands you based on where you are in the app. So you don’t need to use precise language that you used with other assistants before.
3. How to Access Bixby?
As said before, Samsung Galaxy S8, S8+ and Note 8 have got Bixby integrated, which can be accessed using the button on the left-hand side of the phone. Just press and hold Bixby button and say what you want it to do. Bixby Vision that is integrated into the camera can take a photo how you want it to take. Let’s see how Bixby Voice, Bixby Vision and all other features work.
4. Bixby Voice
Bixby Voice can execute even wrong commands in a right way, understanding context. For example,
“Take a selfie and share it will Facebook”.
Even though grammatically it is wrong, Bixby can understand it contextually. Changing the volume or increasing the brightness is a big fun. It can compose and read message as well.
5. Bixby Vision
Bixby Vision works in a similar way to Google Goggles. Bixby Vision identifies whatever it sees through camera, like it can precisely identify an image, place, or text.
6. Bixby Home
Bixby Home follows the concept of home. You can integrate any apps, like Twitter, Facebook, Spotify and your Gallery into Home. You can get access to everything on this app that you have done recently. There will be a card that include pictures you’ve recently taken, or card with music played.
7. Samsung and third-party app integration
Bixby will be integrated with a variety of apps in order to personalize user experience in every area. The apps are:
What territories will Bixby launch in?
Bixby is available in Korean and US English, in 200 countries.
Currently supported devices:
– Samsung Galaxy S8
– Samsung Galaxy S8+
– Samsung Galaxy Note 8
Bixby is a big step by Samsung in the field of artificial intelligence. Starting from mobile, Samsung has a plan to extend Bixby to home automation and other similar areas. On the other hand, mobile app development companies and other technology services companies are more intended to shift their focus to personal assistants and similar AI services instead of just being mobile rockstars.
